Abstract: The relations between virtuality and the construction of the human being are regarded within the philosophical thought of Pierre Lévy. The philosopher's optimism, known for his new digital technologies defense and for the same reason widely criticized, discloses his enrollment in a philosophical posture that unites indetermination to freedom and creation, as it's been defended by authors such as Bergson, Nietzche and Sartre. The virtuality concept emerges in this debate as basic element to the continuous and uninterrupted creation of human experience, through language, technique and social organization. Such virtualizations are responsible for the human constitution process, nowadays sped by technologies. Too explored by the media, the concept loses its original sense as it is presented as opposed to what is real, therefore made synonym for fake and illusion, increasing a popularized fear of virtual. Pierre Lévy rehabilitates the original sense of the term through his thoughts about what the human is and how it is constituted. The philosopher also responds to the demands of contemporary times when discoursing on the virtualization phenomenon allied to technological development. Thinking about virtual also explicit the importance of each human being in its relation with other society members by means of communication and the process of virtuality constitution.

A dissertação "O virtual e o humano no pensamento de Pierre Lévy" foi defendida em 2005 e fez parte do mestrado em comunicação midiática, oferecido pela Universidade Estadual Paulista.
Resumo: As relações entre virtualidade e a construção do humano são abordadas a partir do pensamento filosófico de Pierre Lévy. O otimismo do filósofo, conhecido por defender as novas tecnologias digitais e pelo mesmo motivo amplamente questionado pela crítica, revela o engajamento em uma postura filosófica que alia indeterminação à liberdade e criação, defendida por nomes como Bergson, Nietzche e Sartre. O conceito de virtualidade emerge no debate como elemento fundamental à criação contínua e ininterrupta da experiência humana, presente na linguagem, na técnica e na organização social. Tais virtualizações são responsáveis pelo processo de constituição do humano, hoje acelerado por meio das tecnologias. Demasiado exposto pela mídia, o conceito de virtual perde o sentido quando aliado ao temor popularizado de que se oponha ao real e seja doravante ilusório ou falso. Pierre Lévy resgata o sentido original do termo em uma reflexão sobre o humano e a forma como se constitui, atendendo às demandas da contemporaneidade ao discorrer sobre o fenômeno da virtualização aliado ao desenvolvimento tecnológico. Ao discutir o virtual, discute-se também a importância de cada ser humano em sua relação com os demais membros da sociedade por meio da comunicação e do processo de constituição da virtualidade.Palavras-chave: 1.
